Andrew Smith ousts Brock Matheson in Men’s Singles second round of Li-Ning Victorian International
England’s male shuttler Andrew Smith firmly stamped his supremacy in the badminton arena when he hammered Brock Matheson of New Zealand in Men’s Singles second round encounter at 2012 Li-Ning Victorian International on Thursday, June 28, in Australia.
The higher ranked Smith, who is top seed in Men’s Singles draw of the event, gave a severe lesson to his lower ranked opponent by beating him with a huge margin without facing any problem throughout the battle.
The top seeded English shuttler underlined the huge skill gap while playing against his Kiwi opponent as he was one class above in all aspects of the game and wrapped up an easy victory in straight games.
Matheson, in contrast, was lacking the speed and finishing touch in his shots which made his quite vulnerable to his higher ranked English opponent. He lost this Men’s Singles battle in two sets in just 20 minutes and crashed out in the second round.
The in-form Smith made a powerful start in the tournament as he played aggressive badminton and did not waste any time in taking an impressive lead over his opponent until the mid-game interval in the first game.
After taking rest for one minute, the higher ranked English man continued his positive play and did not let Matheson to narrow the huge gap at any stage. He took advantage in the battle by winning the first game with a stunning score of 21-10.
In the second game, Matheson again found himself in all sorts of trouble as he could not match the pace of rallies and also lost his control over the bird.
On the other hand, Smith continued his fireworks without any interruption and took a stunning lead until the end of opening half.
After the 60-second break, English shuttler showed a little urgency in stretching his lead on the board by injecting more power into his smashes and ultimately won the set with a thrashing 21-8 margin on the score board.
The top seeded Smith emerged as victorious in this lopsided Men’s Singles battle with a staggering margin of 21-10 and 21-8.
