Andrew Smith tames Peyo Boichinov to reach into main round of Austrian International Challenge
England’s spirited shuttler Andrew Smith showed a great improvement in his play as he penetrated into Men’s Singles main round of Austrian International Challenge 2012.
In his last qualifying round clash, Smith tamed Bulgaria’s Peyo Boichinov on Thursday, February 23, in Austria.
The un-seeded Smith, who has been struggling hard to find a good flow, showed an elevated performance by beating his Bulgarian opponent in an impressive fashion.
The English man thrashed Boichinov in straight games without wasting any time in the court as he finished the match in just 26 minutes.
Smith started his campaign against the Bulgarian in a dominating manner as he played at his maximum speed and remained successful in setting up a reasonable lead on the score board.
The tempo of the game was fast in the starting rallies and Boichinov could not cope up with the incredible speed of his English opponent, who was in superb control of the pace of rallies.
Smith continued his crushing play against his confused challenger and set up a wonderful lead of 11-6 until the end of opening half.
After the break, Boichinov increased his speed and tried to take the bird early but he failed to manage the pace of rallies and lost his control. He executed many negative strokes which helped his English rival to get a strong position in the game.
Smith remained positive and composed as he did not play hasty shots at any stage in the game. He was quite calm and played with wonderful precision throughout the set and eventually won it with an incredible margin of 21-10.
In the second game, Smith again put up superb show of flawless badminton proving that his strong play in the previous set was not a fluke. Until the break, he set up a comfortable lead against his Bulgarian opponent by reaching at 11-6.
After the break, Boichinov changed his tactics and played aggressive badminton which earned him five consecutive points and he managed to level the score at 11-11.
However, Smith started to keep the bird low and rushed towards that net which helped him in dominating the pace of rallies. He remained positive throughout the concluding phase and took the set with a 21-15 score on the board.
The concluding score of this Men’s Singles straight-set contest was 21-10 and 21-15.
