The batting coach states, that Flower and Strauss deserve the credit for transforming England into a winning unit. He believes that their leadership qualities help the side stay focused.
Gooch also spoke highly of the relationship between the coach and the captain.
The 58-year-old coach applauded Strauss for leading the side from the front. He reckoned that Strauss has been a consistent performer with the bat for some time and commands respect from rest of his team, both in the field and in the dressing room.

Gooch also lavished praise on Flower and admires his coaching tactics. He feels that Flower has worked hard with players, prepared them for tough challenges and covered every aspect of their game, which has helped the team work collectively as one unit.

When asked what he thinks of Flower’s thoroughness and if it is the reason behind the Poms becoming one of the toughest Test playing nations in recent days, Goochie said that he (Flower) is not only thorough, but what he has done is to develop a group of
players who complement each other and has variety in the squad as well.
Gooch revealed that Flower set targets for players when they are in a coaching session. The head coach has given players power and freedom to express their thoughts and make recommendations. The batting legend asserts that everyone in the Poms’ side knows
his role.
