England’s Test skipper, Andrew Strauss, and coach Andy Flower, were invited to Windsor Castle, where the duo was bestowed with the Order of the British Empire (OBE) award by the Princess Royal in honour of their heroic efforts
in the Ashes.
Strauss led the English side to their first Ashes win in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 after a period of 24 years. The Poms outplayed their opponents in the series and won the Ashes 3-1. As a result of the victory, England was able to retain the Ashes.
Strauss said that lifting the Ashes trophy was the best moment of his career and compared the Ashes victory to the “Holy Grail”.
“It was certainly one of the proudest moments of my career because for us winning the Ashes away from home is a bit like the Holy Grail. It's not something that many English sides have done previously, so it makes it more satisfying
when you are able to achieve that,” concludes Strauss.
England’s head coach, Flower, acknowledged Strauss’ leadership. The former Zimbabwean cricketer also stated that he and the English skipper shared a very cordial relationship.
“I think we've had a good partnership Andrew Strauss and I, so it's nice to be with him here today. He's been a superb leader for the England cricket team and a great role model. I think he especially has been a role model in embracing
responsibility for results and the way the players train, and that is one of the better things that has happened to the squad,” praised Flower.
England’s cricket team has attained the number one spot in International Cricket Council's (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) Test rankings. The Poms achieved this feat by uprooting India 4-0 in the recent home series. Flower believes that it is the hard work
from the players, coach, administrator and the captain, that has done wonders for the team.
