Andrew Strauss, the English Test captain, is hopeful of a match-winning performance by his top pacer, Stuart Broad, in the 3rd and last Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rose-c86842 Bowl.
The skipper, who is eager to win the series 2-0, is expecting a rock-solid bowling attack from his pacers, especially Broad.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Young-c98322 pacer remained somewhat out-of-form during the last two games. He took four wickets in the first Test at Cardiff for 134 runs and grabbed 2 for 154 in the second game at Lord’s.
Broad has been spending a lot of time in the practice nets during the intervening period between the 2nd and 3rd Tests, and is expecting to come back with a better show.
The 3rd Test is a must-win game for the English, who are vying for a series victory. On the other hand, the Lankans are looking to level the series by winning the final tie.
Strauss is relying heavily on his pacers to make an impact in the match as the Sri Lankan batsmen have proved to be somewhat weak against the fast bowlers.
Broad is the major focus of the skipper, who termed him unlucky in the previous tests, but not incapable.
Strauss said, “We always want our bowlers to be taking a lot of wickets, so in that sense it is. But he has done a lot of good things - he has passed the bat a lot.”
He further elaborated, “You have to realise that sometimes one guy will get all the wickets when another guy bowls better, so you have to look a little bit beyond how many wickets a guy has taken and look at how many balls they got in the right area - and
that sort of stuff."
Broad, the 24-year-old, right-arm pacer, has recently taken over the reins of England’s Twenty20 squad.
Though his basic role is that of a bowler, he has delivered well with the bat too on a number of occasions.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 Cricket Board (ECB) has given him the leadership of the limited-overs side despite severe opposition by the cricketing fraternity.
It is now up to Broad to silence his critics, putting up a good show with both the bat and the ball.
