Andrew Strauss content despite below par performance in the final Test – Cricket News Update
The victorious English captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 however, admitted that they were well below par in the rain-curtailed third Test match at Edgbaston.
The hosts took the series by a 2-0 margin, following victories in the opening two games at Lord’s and Trent Bridge, before the final game was wiped out after rain took centre stage on the first two days and further frustrated the players on the final morning.
While England’s dominance at home was evident, the Windies had shown plenty of fighting spirit throughout the series - none more so than in the two days of play that were possible at Birmingham.
After being limited to 283 for 9, Windies completed an impressive recovery where http://www.senore.com/Cricket/D-Ramdin-c1299 and Tino Best added  143 for the last-wicket, with the former reaching an unbeaten century while the latter playing an entertaining knock of 95 – a world record
score for a no.11 in Test cricket.
The tourists carried that momentum with the ball as well, where they had reduced the hosts to 49 for 3 before http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IR-Bell-c1597 managed to rescue their side with composed half-centuries. The Poms ended the penultimate day at 221 for 5, after which
rain brought a premature end to the game.
Strauss, who then lifted the Wisden Trophy along with winning the joint Player of the Series award, admitted that his team struggled to bring out their A game, lamenting a lack of focus caused by several  rain interventions.
"Obviously we played enough good cricket in those first two Test matches to win them reasonably comfortably," he said."This Test match was frustrating for all sorts of reasons, clearly the rain wiping out the first two days doesn't help with the intensity
of the cricket and we certainly didn't get everything right when we were out there in the field.”
"We are also aware that there are definitely areas in which we need to improve. It wasn't a perfect performance by us, in the little play we did have, and that is frustrating,” added Strauss.
