Andrew Strauss feels England can surprise in ICC World Cup 2011
England’s captain, Andrew Strauss feels that his team can surprise their opponents at the upcoming ICC World Cup 2011. Strauss understands that many teams underestimate England’s defensive and conservative approach, due to their poor performance in the 2007
World Cup. Strauss stressed that the team has learned their lesson the hard way and they will go all out this time in their attempt to win the coveted prize for the first time.
Strauss said, “The whole campaign in the 2007 World Cup was a poor one. We didn’t start well; we never got going and played a very conservative brand of cricket.”

in the One Day Internationals. Recently, they have really clicked as a team and are in good shape for the upcoming World Cup. Their 1-6 loss against the Australians was a big set-back, but they still go in the mega event as one of the strong contenders.
Strauss was quoted as saying, “We didn’t play good one-day cricket just recently. But we’ve got a solid squad, a very settled side and we really feel we can do really well in this tournament.”
England won the ICC World Cup T20 in 2010, showing that they have what it takes to excel in the shorter formats of the game. England’s skipper believes that the side can take inspiration from their big win and again make an impact at the world stage.
Strauss knows that his team does not boast a very good record on the sub-continent tracks. The conditions are very different to what the English players are suited to playing, so they have traditionally struggled on them.
The captain believes his team has the right combination of players to do well on the unpredictable wickets. Strauss said, “We’re going to have to play well on the sub-continent, but I think we have the raw materials, a lot of talent in our squad and guys
who can play expansive cricket and aggressive cricket.”
The English side has made it to the World Cup finals three times. They will be looking to break this jinx, when the tournament starts on 19 February, 2011. The skipper has set high hopes for the upcoming showpiece event, as he stressed that the team he is
leading will be able to rise to the occasion and surprise their adversaries.
