http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013’s Test captain, Andrew Strauss, has denied the rumours that he is slowly winding up his international career and said that he still has a lot to offer to England in the longer version of the sport.
Strauss announced his retirement from One Day International cricket (ODI) earlier this month and already does not play T20 cricket because his thinks that his style of batting is not suitable for the shortest format of the game.
His retirement from limited overs cricket has meant that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SCJ-Broad-c2465 will captain England in T20s.
The left hander said that by not playing limited overs cricket does not mean that he is going to pack his bags from international cricket. Strauss added that he still has a lot of cricket left in him and can serve England for some more years in Test cricket,
which he thinks is the highest form of the international sport.
Strauss said, "If anyone gets the impression I've stopped playing one-day cricket and am gradually winding down to the end of my career that's not the way I see it. I'm not done yet."
The left handed opener led his team to a historic victory in Ashes 2010-11 when England defeated the Aussies by an emphatic margin of 3-1.
Although England has not done that well in limited overs cricket since last six months but there is no question that Strauss has captained his country brilliantly in the longer format of the game since last couple of years.
Strauss said that his preference has always been Test cricket and he has announced retirement from ODIs just to prolong his Test career. English Test captain added that he will continue to lead his country in five-day cricket with the best of his abilities.
"The idea of not playing one-day cricket is to give me a spurt in Test cricket and allow me to play longer and lead the side as well as I can," Strauss added.
Apart from his captaincy, Strauss is solid top order batsman for England and hopes that he can continue to pile up big runs in Test cricket.
