http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964 hints a change in the playing XI for the third Test – Cricket News Update
Andrew Strauss, the England captain, is jubilant to have won the series against West Indies with one match remaining. However, the left-handed opener has hinted at some changes for the third Test, which will be played in Birmingham from June 7, 2012.
England defeated the visitors by nine wickets in the second match of the series at Trent Bridge and have maintained their top ranking in Test cricket.
The Poms have won both Test matches so far, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 and company have shown fighting spirit throughout the tour, which made Strauss confess that his team had to play good cricket to win at Lord’s as well as at Trent Bridge.
Being the number one ranked team of the world, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 would have liked to win the two matches in a more comprehensive manner, as West Indies is not considered to be a major force in Test cricket. However, Strauss believes that a win is a win even if it
comes after a close fight.
“We got ourselves in positions where we thought we could take the game by the scruff of the neck but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 fought back. It's been a hot hard four days. You always like to be more clinical than we have been,” the England captain said.
While talking about any expected changes for the next Test, the left-handed opening batsman hinted that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ST-Finn-c2566 may get an opportunity to prove his worth in the longer version of the sport in Birmingham. However, the English skipper made it clear that
the goal of his side is to whitewash West Indies in the series.
He added, “We're going to have to take stock, have a look at the bowlers, see how everyone feels before the third Test. We'll see about that over the next couple of days. There's always some benefit in seeing other bowlers but first and foremost we want
to win the Test match.”
England will take on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, the number two ranked Test team of the world later this summer, and the series against West Indies is considered to be a preparation for Strauss’ men ahead of the all-important battle.
