http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 to be No.1 after winning Series – Cricket News Update
Andrew Strauss, the English skipper, thinks that England is on the verge of becoming the world’s No.1 Test team, following its fabulous victory in the 1st Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at Lord’s. He has expressed full confidence in his players and hopes
to clinch the top slot from the tourists by defeating them in the ongoing 4–match series.
England beat India by 196 runs in the 2000th Test, which started on July 21 and ended on July 25, at the Home of Cricket.
Strauss has been cherishing the dream to earn the top slot for Team England since holding the reins of the team, and many in the English cricketing circles think that the time has come for the captain to materialise his vision.
Strauss, who has termed the current series bigger than Ashes, has brought home two Ashes titles in a row.
Like his Indian counterpart, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, Strauss has been out of form as a batsman but impressive and successful as a leader.
Strauss recently relinquished ODI captaincy in a bid to invest all his energies and skills to make England, the world’s best Test side. Being a charismatic and meticulous leader, he makes right decisions and keeps the unity and harmony in the team intact.
Following the home team’s marvellous victory in the 1st game, the skipper is geared up to goad his boys to replicate the winning momentum in the next three games as well.
In his words with media, Strauss reiterated, “To be number one you have to grab your opportunities and I think we did that very well in this game. It's the first of a four-match series but we've demonstrated that when we play well we're a match for anyone.
Now we just have to play well again.”
He also told, “We are aware that this is just the opening salvo in the series, but Lord's is a hard wicket as the game goes on and the performance was outstanding.”
Starting his Test career in 2004, Strauss has played 86 matches so far with 6165 runs, which include 19 centuries and 24 fifties.
