Andrew Strauss keen to use 3rd Test to release tension in riot-hit England – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at Edgbaston, Birmingham, may spark some good feelings and release the tension to some extent in the violence-hit London. He has reiterated that the ongoing
bloody riots in the country have nothing to do with their playing schedule, as all the players have been assured of fool proof security at the venue.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 is currently experiencing one of the worst episodes of civil unrest in its history. Hundreds of thousands of people—predominantly the youth, are protesting against the death of one of their countrymate, in the custody of the local police.
The frensied mobs are looting shops, hurting people, burning buildings and blocking roads in order to register their anger against the government.
This fray forced the Indian and the English players to stay locked in their hotel rooms on the 8th and 9th and they could not pay full focus on their crucial practice ahead of a high-stakes game. However, they held a short practice
session in full surveillance of security personnel.
As the 3rd Test between the two ace teams of the world is set to start today, some analysts fear that the match can be called off for security reasons. However, Strauss has turned down this perception by revealing that the security manager of
the team has assured them they are hundred percent safe.
Talking to the media, the skipper said, “Let's divorce the cricket match from what is going on in the country which is clearly not our proudest hour as a country right at the moment.”
He further told, “I think this is an opportunity for cricket to maybe put a feelgood factor into the newspapers and show that not everything is bad out there at the moment. When you watch these scenes on the television, it's horrific and it's far from England's
proudest moment. But we fully intend to play the game as we would any other game."
On the other hand, the game organisers fear that the riots may mitigate the numbers of spectators, which was expected to be very high. Moreover, the security agencies are concerned about the safety of the fans who will come to watch the live action.
