England cricket team’s captain, Andrew Strauss, was thrilled after his side pulled-off a victory against India by 196 runs, on Monday, July 25, 2011, at Lord’s. Indians were set a target of 458 runs while they could only manage 261.
Strauss lavished praise on middle-order batsman, Kevin Pietersen and Stuart Broad, the right-arm fast bowler, for the role they exhibited during the 2000th game of Test cricket history.
The 34-year-old cricketer dubbed Pietersen’s innings as probably the finest performances he has ever witnessed by an English batsmen. KP scored a double century in first innings and powered the Poms to 474 runs.
Straussy also welcomed the return to form of Broad, who was criticized by many for his lean patch with the ball. Broad claimed seven wickets in the match while conceding 94 runs.
Strauss fondly said, “KP's innings was one of the best I've seen by an http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 to it. It's always tough to bowl sides out here on the 5th day, if you're
going to do it you have to be very disciplined.”
The English skipper continued, “The bowling unit were outstanding all throughout the Test match. I can't praise them enough because they had to bowl a lot of overs. We back ourselves to get 20 wickets. We know sometimes it's going to be tough, but they complement
each other well. Someone always http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Hunter-c1571 their hand up and gets wickets.”
Indians pose a great threat and the English skipper is fully aware of that. He speaks highly of Team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and states that the Men in Blue are going to get better with time and bodes tougher competition from them in upcoming games. Therefore, the left-hander
advised his country-men to raise their standards as the series progresses.
Strauss and the rest of English side kept their words and denied the Little Master, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705 in second innings for 12 runs, while Broad claimed his prized wicket in the
first.
Both teams have three days of rest to recuperate before the second Test match, which starts at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, from July 29, 2011.
