England’s Test skipper, Andrew Strauss, discredits the notion of cricket being cleared of corruption, claiming that there are still some black spots in the industry, and that it is hard to control this menace completely.
However, the veteran batsman terms International Cricket Council and media’s vigilant attitude towards this issue as a good sign for a game that has been plagued with spot-fixing and other controversial issues.
While speaking to the media today, the captain said, “I don’t think it’s possible to say that cricket is clean. I think there is more awareness about it. It’s been in the news a lot, which is a good thing. There have been some consequences to what went on,
but it’s a hard thing to eradicate completely.”
Straussy has aired these views ahead of his team’s crucial series against Pakistan - a team that has become notorious in international cricket for the spot-fixing scandal it beared during a series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
During their tour to the English territory in August 2010, three Pakistani players named as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed.
The scam was exposed by an English newspaper. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625, in reaction, imposed long bans on the trio. Later on, the British Southwark Court put them behind the bars.
Strauss hopes there will be no unfavorable incidence this time, insisting that both the teams should use this series to sort out their differences.
He said, “What’s happened before, as far as I’m concerned, is water under the bridge and I hope both sides can play the game in the right spirit. We should see this series as an opportunity to erode or eradicate the perception that there’s always issues
between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and England.”
For the first time after the spot-fixing tragedy, the Poms and the Cornered Tigers are going to meet at neutral venues of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE) for a bilateral series of 3 Tests, 4 ODIs and 3 T20Is, starting from January 17.
