Andrew Strauss pays tribute to Tom Maynard at funeral – Cricket News Update

“I first saw Tom when he was a teenager when Matthew was batting coach of England. He had grown up so well since then and was forging a name for himself in the game of cricket,” said Strauss. “I suppose that's part of what makes it so tragic he is no longer
with us.”
“It's obviously a very tough day for everyone who knew him, no more so than for members of his family,” he added.
The funeral service was open to the public, and held at the Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff – Maynard’s home town – on July 4. Close to 1000 mourners, including family, sports figures, and members of the public, turned up for the service, among them Kevin

Eulogies were delivered by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hugh-Morris-c63550, and the cricketer’s uncle Charles Maynard.
The right-hander started out by playing for Glamorgan, before shifting to Surrey. He played a total of 48 first-class matches (with 2384 runs to his credit), 63 List A matches (1763 runs), and 50 Twenty20s (1034 runs). Tipped as one of the future stars of
English cricket, the 23-year-old met an untimely death on June 18, when his body was found on the train tracks near the Wimbledon Park tube station.
It was later revealed that Maynard’s car had been stopped by the police next to Wimbledon mosque in Ryford Road, owing to his erratic driving. The cricketer fled the scene on foot, and was later discovered dead near the train tracks in West London.
A forensic post mortem, carried out by a Home Office pathologist, revealed that the cause of death was electrocution, going on to add that the cricketer had suffered http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Burns-c48842 after coming into contact with the live rail, as well as sustaining multiple injuries
as a result of being hit by the train.
An inquest into the incident has been opened and adjourned at Westminster Coroner's Court until September 24.
