http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964 remains the best option to lead England in Test cricket, expresses Graeme Swann – Cricket News Update
England’s premier off-spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GP-Swann-c1501, has come out in support of his Test captain, Andrew Strauss and expressed that the left-handed opening batsman is still the best choice to lead the country in the longer version of the sport.
England became the number one ranked Test team of the world under the leadership of Strauss and a number of cricket analysts rate him as one of the most successful captains of the English cricket history. However, he has been under immense criticism since England’s 3-0 loss in the recently concluded Test series against Pakistan in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE).
Considering this nose dive in England’s performance, some of the cricket fans and even the former cricketers want a change in the leadership. On top of that, some brilliant performances by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026 as the One Day International captain has put a lot of pressure on the English selectors.
However, Swann has no doubts in his mind that Strauss remains the best option for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 to captain in Test cricket. The off-spinner, who has been an integral part of the English team since last couple of years, feels that Strauss knows how to handle pressure and he has the ability to take the best out of players. Swann is of the opinion that one bad series does not make Strauss a bad captain.
"I'm laying my cards on the table in support of Strauss, and saying with 100-per-cent certainty he remains the best man to lead England in Tests. There have been mutterings in some quarters he might be under pressure following our 3-0 series defeat against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in the UAE," said the off-spinner.
Swann is all praise for his Test captain and believes that the left hander deserves a lot of credit for turning a mediocre English team into the number one ranked Test team of the world. He also referred to the English team’s performances in last two Ashes series’.
He added, "He is one of the most successful England captains of all time and his CV includes back-to-back Ashes victories - including the historic triumph Down Under last winter - and leading England to No 1 in the world Test rankings."
