Andrew Strauss says responsible tweeting is acceptable
The promising England batsman, Kevin Pietersen, made another appearance on the micro-blogging Internet website Twitter on Wednesday with an undiplomatic message branding the Adelaide Oval’s staff “pathetic.”
What prompted KP bash the Adelaide Oval’s ground staff was their failure to cover the nets during heavy showers which forced the tourists to have an indoor training session. Though the Tweet got heavy criticism but the English captain Andrew
Strauss showed a straight bat to the questions during a news conference at Adelaide Oval saying it was good thing his men were not as boring as he himself was. He rather said that the batsman, had "vented his frustration" after he could not have a "long bat"
just two days before the start of Adelaide Test.
"I wouldn't prefer all of my players to be exactly like me, it would be a pretty boring dressing room," said the visiting skipper. "Everyone's different and a lot of the guys really enjoy it and it is a good way of broadening the appeal
of the game. It allows players to contact people who are into the game.”
The 33-year-old turned down the talks that by using the social media Pietersen has violated England’s code of conduct. Strauss also declined the suggestions that England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) should ban the use of micro-blogging
site Twitter in the team, however, he did opine that the players should make responsible use of it.
"There're some benefits to it but it has to be used responsibly and by and large it has been. We need to make sure we don't have more incidents of the type we have seen before."
The incidents Strauss was taking about were the foul-mouthed Twitter outbursts from all-rounder Dimitri Mascarenhas and Pietersen against the English selectors that led to the ECB fining the two heavily.
