England Captain, Andrew Strauss has said that the axing of Mitchell Johnson is a big decision for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. The first Ashes Test is finally over, and it did have a number of memorable moments for the players from both teams. For
England, it was their second innings batting which was the prime feature for them in the Test match. At one stage, England had to cover a deficit of 221 runs and it seemed they found it quite hard to come out of the situation. It was a remarkable recovery
from their top three batsmen as they showed a lot of grit in the last two days, and recovered their side from what Andy Flower described as a “dangerous situation”. Records were broken, as England piled on 517 for the loss of just 1 wicket in their second
innings. England were successful in getting the highest partnership in Australia, when Jonathan Trott and Alastair Cook made a 329 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. Cook was again among the record holders when he scored the highest individual total in Brisbane.
It was natural that Australia would make changes for the second Test match which will start on December 3 in Adelaide. Mitchell Johnson was a major disappointment for Australia, as not only was he expensive in his spells but he
also did not manage to take any wicket in the test match. After the first Test, selectors decided to axe Mitchell Johnson for the rest of the Ashes series. Doug Bollinger and Ryan Harris are included in the 13 man squad for the second Test and both of them
are looking to be in good form. The England Captain was one of the players who decided to speak in favor of Johnson, as he was a bit surprised over the axing of the baller. Andrew Strauss was of the view that Mitchell Johnson has remained a good performer
for Australia over a number of years, and has led their bowling attack quite well. Johnson has remained the main strike bowler for Australia for quite some time, and is the only bowler in their current Test lineup to manage 100 Test wickets. His bowling of
late has been a bit wayward as he has not been able to bowl at a decent length and has also been expensive in his spells. Strauss further said that it’s a pretty big decision on the part of Australia to leave their main strike bowler out for the rest of the
series.
Andrew Strauss said that they have to be careful and ready for the player who gets selected in Johnson’s place.
