Andrew Strauss taking things as they come
England captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in the ongoing Test series.
A number of English cricketers including http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IR-Bell-c1597 have recently expressed their ambition of becoming the number one ranked Test team of the world.
However, their captain is not setting any long-term goals and feels that looking too far ahead could turn out to be a huge distraction for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and it is best for the team that they take every single series with complete concentration.
Strauss said, "Those goals are long-term goals, and you can be in too much of a rush to achieve them. All our language all the way through this series is not to look beyond this series - in fact not to look beyond each Test."
England are currently battling against Sri Lanka in the last match of the three match series at the Rose Bowl and leading the series 1-0. The left handed opener wants to end the series by winning the Rose Bowl Test.
England captain has also praised the level of competition Sri Lankan team has given to England in the Test series.
"We come here with a really good chance of finishing off this series on a high, and winning 2-0. But Sri Lanka have shown enough over the last couple of games to know they're no pushovers, by any means. We're going to have to work hard," he added.
The home team will take on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in the later half of the summer. India is the number one ranked Test team at the moment and Andrew Strauss and company are eyeing a series win against the world champions to enhance their chances of being crowned as the best
Test team of the world.
England’s middle order batsman Ian Bell wrote in his article for http://www.cricinfo.com/ yesterday that his team not only wants to achieve the top ranking but also to retain it for a number of years to come, just like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 did in late 1990s and early 2000s.
