Heaping special praise on Jonathan Trott for his fantastic double-century against Sri Lanka in the first Test, England captain, Andrew Strauss, termed him as the mainstay of England’s batting department.
While responding to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alastair-Nathan-Cook-c42852, smashed a thrilling knock of 203 runs and steered his side to a formidable total of 496 in the first innings.
The 30-year-old right-hander, who won the ‘Player of the Match’ award, stayed at the crease for almost nine hours and scored his second double-hundred in Test cricket.
Cardiff’s inhospitable weather spoiled the party on all five days of the Test and the match was heading towards a ‘no result’ game.
However, the English side made a strong comeback in the second innings and washed out the Lankan Tigers on a measly 82.
After sealing a comprehensive innings and 14-runs victory, the Poms are currently leading the three-match series by 1-0.
In 19 Test matches, Trott has scored 1803 runs. His average of 66.77 is the second best in Test cricket after the legendary http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Donald-George-Bradman-c54397.
Extremely impressed with his consistent performance for England in all formats of the game, Strauss lauded Trott for his double-hundred which eventually helped England notch a dramatic triumph.
“All sides all over the world are looking for solidity at number three. He has scored runs consistently but in a controlled manner that has settled the whole of our dressing room,” Strauss said.
The classy English opener added, “He has come in sometimes in the first over, like at Brisbane (in November), and at other times he has come in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-Muchall-c1499 later. But the great thing about Trott is that he bats the same way and at his own tempo. That is how the
likes of (India’s) http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jacques-Henry-Kallis-c65247 bat. It is unbelievable in how he has played over the last 18 months.”
Meanwhile, Strauss pushed Trott to continue the good work in the upcoming matches in the season. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 team is now scheduled to meet the Lankans in the second Test at Lord’s, starting from June 3, 2011.
