Andrew Strauss urges England players not to act as passengers in the Ashes Series
England captain Andrew Strauss has urged his players not to act as passengers in the upcoming Ashes series. More comments came from Strauss after he earlier commented that he is ready to lead his side to war against the Aussies.
It seems as though Strauss is really pumped up for the upcoming Ashes series and nothing more than a win will satisfy him. He has also jumped onto the bandwagon of making interesting verbal comments before the Ashes series.
Strauss warned his players that there should be no passengers in the England squad in their quest to retain the Ashes. This aggressive approach would be required by the England players if they wish to retain the
Ashes. The England Captain is optimistic that he has all the right men on board to pull off an achievement that has not been achieved since Mike Gatting’s men defeated the Aussies in their home-turf.
He further said that a team needs all of its playing 11 to be able to perform at the right time. Strauss’ comments do give an indication to his players to be mentally prepared to perform at the top level. He again made some wise
comments that it’s not one or two players within the team who are expected to perform well in the series but it’s the ability to adapt to different situations and circumstances and maintain a certain balance that matters the most.
He further said that you have to be fit, strong and stable in your mind and then you can put http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 down.
Strauss knows that to win in Australia is one big challenge and all the departments of a line-up should be in form and upbeat to defeat Australia in their own ground. Strauss was also of the view that the side has learned harsh
lessons from their previous Ashes tour and players who were present in the previous tour know what style of cricket one needs to play to be successful in Australia.
His passenger comments highlight the bitter experience of the previous Australian tour. (Now retired) Ashley Giles was one player among many who was not effective throughout the series. Not only was he not able
to take vital wickets, he was also not able to provide the pressure which is the foremost thing required from your lead spinner. He did act as a liability in the team in the previous tour and was not effective at all.
He further said that although his team has performed well in the recent past, he knows not everything is going to be smooth throughout the three-month period. Strauss was also of the view that their team’s strength is that they
are a tight unit in which all the players contribute, and in crucial and vital times they have been able to win matches and tight games. The same comment was given by Stuart Broad, who highlighted that the side’s strength of late has been to play as a unit
in which every player performs and contributes his bit.
