Andrew Strauss wants England to improve after surviving Netherlands scare

England captain Andrew Strauss expressed discontentment over his team’s unimpressive victory in their opening match of the ICC World Cup 2011 against minnows http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753.
Speaking to media after his team successfully chased a mammoth total of 292 runs, Strauss said, “We got a lot of things wrong with our bowling. We need to improve. The first 50 overs was a very poor performance and the last 10 was extremely poor.”
Strauss scored 88 runs to help his team chase a score which should not have been allowed to be posted on the board in the first place, owing to the fact that England have some of the finest young bowlers in the world.
Nevertheless, taking nothing away from Netherlands, Strauss gave full credit to the way the men from Holland batted.
Middle-order batsman, Jonathan Trott also played a vital innings in the run chase by scoring 62 runs.
Talking to the media after the match, Trott said, “It was one of those things that can happen. We got the result we wanted, but we need to be more consistent. This result showed us what we need to work on and get our act together and come up with a few ideas.”
England were beaten by Netherlands in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup in 2009 and perhaps the ghosts of that defeat were still haunting them when they went into the match.
However, before the game, Strauss’ men had expressed their determination to take vengeance from the team which handed them an embarrassing defeat two years ago.
If anything this opening match has shown is the fact that the English bowlers have still not come to terms with the bowling conditions in the Subcontinent and if their management does not resolve their woes, they are most likely going to suffer against better
teams.
