Andrey Amador Bakkazakova wins the stage 14 of the Giro d’Italia and bagged his first victory at the Italian Grand Tour
Andrey Amador Bakkazakova of Team Movistar was finding it difficult to register his first victory of the 2012 season.
However, the Costa Rican professional cyclist has found a perfect venue to open his 2012 winning account, the Giro d’Italia.
He rode brilliantly during the stage 14 of the first Grand Tour race of the season and overcame his major rivals during the event.
Andrey completed the 205 kilometre chase to Cervinia in a quickest time of 5 hours, 33 minutes and 36 seconds and registered his first stage victory at the Giro d’Italia.
Jan Barta of Team NetApp finished almost at the same time and achieved the second position.
Alessandro De Marchi of Team Androni Giocattoli fell 20 seconds short and secured the third spot while Ryder Hesjedal of Team Garmin-Barracuda, Paolo Tiralongo of Team Astana and Rigoberto Uran Uran of Team Sky occupied the next three positions.
Andrey was overjoyed after the race and shared his views with the media, "It is a dream to win in the Giro, especially when it is one of the mountain stages like this".
"I am proud. This victory shows that if you work, the results follow. This year I have done many things, mentally and physically".
"It was a long hard day. I tried to manage what little I had left, and I'm very happy for the victory".
Stage 13 overall classifications leader Ryder Hesjedal of Team Garmin-Barracuda finished at the fourth position and maintained his overall dominance.
"I felt good. It felt easy when the guys were setting the tempo, when some guys started to accelerate a bit, I knew it eased off after 3km,”Hesjedal cited.
The Canadian is currently leading the stage 14 classifications with a healthy lead of 9 seconds over Rodriguez.
Paolo Tiralongo of Team Astana Pro Team is 41 seconds behind at the third position with Sandy Casar of Team FDJ-Big Mat and Ivan Basso of Team Liquigas-Cannondale holding the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
Team Movistar is holding the top position at the team’s classifications.
Team Astana, Tem Liquigas-Cannondale and Team Lampre-ISD and Team Vacansoleil-DCM are at the second, the third, the fourth and the fifth positions.
