Andrey Grechin earns Men’s 100m freestyle gold: Day one – 2012 Zurich International Meet
Andrey Grechin of Saint Petersburg went full throttle to gather gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle final on first day of the 2012 Zurich International Meet in Switzerland on Saturday, February 25.
The Zurich meet is of paramount importance as it provides a chance to the international swimmers to race with each other and overcome their weaknesses before the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Grechin outsmarted his competitors by occupying gold medal of the 100m discipline with an effort of 50.06 seconds. He remained nearly one second ahead of Flori Lang of SC Uster Wallisellen, who reached the medal rostrum for silver medal with the timing of
51.02 seconds.
The third spot of the race was obtained by Alexandre Liess of Switzerland, who was 0.98 seconds slower from his former finisher and emerged on the podium with an effort of 52.00 seconds. Other highlighting performance of the event included the swim of Australian
comeback king, Ian Thorpe, who finished fourth in the event by posting a time of 52.28 seconds.
Next was the Women’s 200m freestyle, where Nina Kost of Badischer Schwimmverband secured gold medal of the event with an effort of 2 minutes and 04.89 seconds. She was followed by Danielle Villars of Limmat Sharks Zurich, who stepped on the medal rostrum
for second position by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 05.06 seconds.
Villars was trailed by Kost’s teammate, Sarah Silveira, who cemented her place on the victory stand for bronze medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 08.14 seconds.
Subsequently, Yannick Kaser of Limmat Sharks Zurich seized the title of Men’s 50m breaststroke. Kaser ended his swim in a time of 30.35 seconds to gain crown of the event. He was chased by Fabian Dalacker, who was 0.06 seconds slower from him and produced
an effort of 30.41 seconds for bronze medal.
Valerio Romagnoli surfaced on the finishing end for third position as she reported 30.81 seconds for bronze medal.
In addition, the session ended after the conclusion of all swimming events whereas the arena appreciated ruthless efforts of all contestants in their exclusive events.
