Andriy Kalyna pockets Men’s 100m breaststroke gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Andriy Kalyna of Ukraine pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke in SB8 category on day three of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Saturday, September 1.
The Ukrainian swimmer stayed comfortably ahead of his challengers throughout the discipline as he earned his way towards the wall for gold medal. He devastated hopes of his opponents in the 100m discipline and ensured his place on the medal rostrum for gold medal.
With his astonishing efforts, he remained two body lengths ahead of his following swimmer and hit the wall for gold medal with a timing of 1 minute and 07.45 seconds.
His scintillating pace placed him in two and a half body length lead over Matthew Cowdrey of Australia, who stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by submitting a time of 1 minute and 09.88 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Maurice Deelen of Netherlands, who stayed 1.21 seconds slower and clocked a time of 1 minute and 11.09 seconds.
Deelen was chased by Andreas Onea of Austria, who remained 0.26 seconds away from his former finisher and hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 11.35 seconds.
Onea was trailed by Krzysztof Paterka of Poland, who stayed 3.41 seconds apart and completed his race in fifth best place by submitting a time of 1 minute and 14.76 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was occupied by James Crisp of Great Britain, who was nearly half body length behind and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 15.71 seconds.
Crisp was stayed by Sam Hynd of Great Britain, who remained nearly full body length behind and finished seventh in the event with the timing of 1 minute and 16.64 seconds.
Hynd was trailed by Evgeny Zimin of Russia, who was half body length away from upsetting his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 1 minute and 17.26 seconds.
In addition, Kalyna received huge round of applause from the crowd for his notable efforts while swimmers raked medals after the event.
