Roy Hodgson faces a bit of a selection dilemma with respect to who should start up front for the Three Lions in their opening two games at the Euros and Liverpool’s Andy Carroll could just be the perfect choice.
England’s chances of winning this edition of the premier international competition in Europe were dealt a serious blow when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 fiasco.
Former Liverpool and Fulham manager, Roy Hodgson was appointed as the Italian’s successor to mixed reactions from fans and analysts. Many wanted Tottenham Hotspur manager, Harry Redknapp for the post but they ended up with Hodgson instead.
Another problem that the Three Lions face comes in the form of who will lead the attack for the side. The Goalkeeper, defence and midfield is pretty much sorted but up front is where the real headache for Hodgson begins.
Wayne Rooney will miss the opening two games of the Euros due to suspension and this leaves the manager with a number of second choice options including Tottenham’s Jermaine Defoe, Manchester United’s Danny Welbeck and Liverpool’s Andy Carroll.
While Defoe brings a level of experience that none of the other strikers posses on the international stage, he cannot operate as a lone striker up front, which judging from Hodgson’s 23-man squad selection, seems to be how he plans to set his side up. So
playing him in a 4-5-1 formation would not be the wisest option.
Next up is http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Sturridge-c10076. The reason for this is because Welbeck has had most of his goals
served to him on a platter by the brilliance of United’s midfield and wingers, while on the other hand Sturridge has the experience to lead the line on his own and has proved his ability to make something out of nothing.
Sadly, Sturridge is not part of the squad meaning that the only player who has the ability to lead the line on his own is Andy Carroll. The former Newcastle United player had a stop-start season at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 however he had been inspirational during the last
few games of the season.
Scoring a late winner against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, Carroll demonstrated his ability to come good on the bigger stages and if he can reproduce similar performances for England in
the Euros, then the lack of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 in the starting line-up will not be as big an issue as it is now.
However, one has to wonder if Carroll has the nerve to hold his own in what will be his first major international tournament of his career. However, the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stewart-Downing-c34221 will also be in the England squad as well and
will be providing the Euro debutant plenty of support in what will be a coming of age experience for Carroll.
If http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 can play to Carroll’s strengths than they can prove to be a formidable force in the competition, yet everything depends on how well Carroll can adapt to the international scene on such a big stage.
