Andy Carroll has his feet on the ground
Newcastle United announced their arrival back in the Premier League with a bang, as the Magpies outclassed Aston Villa by 6-0 early in the season. The big win really made all stand up and take notice, but one name that took
all the headlines was one that most had never heard. It was the young striker Andy Carroll who scored a fabulous hat trick against Aston Villa.
It is since that day that he has been tipped to go on and do big things, and is also believed to be a sure shot name in England’s national team. The young front man has though refused to let it all go to his head and insists
that his interest lies with his club, and he wants to do all he can to help Newcastle grow this season.
Carroll was left out by Stuart Pierce from the England under 21 team, which suggested that he may be called up to the senior side for Euro 2012 qualifiers. But that actually did not happen and Fabio Capello, the England manager
actually decided to go with the uncapped 33 year old Bolton striker Kevin Davies.
While talking to a British newspaper Carroll said that being tipped to be in the national team is an honour for him, but he will wait for the right time and not worry about that for now. He added that all his attention is
focused on getting goals for his beloved Magpies and nothing else is on his mind.
He told the Chronicle: "It's a compliment. And at the moment that's all it is. I'm not going to get distracted from my task.
"I don't look at anything like that, not at the league tables too much, top scorers tables or papers - and I don't watch too many games on TV”.
Carroll went on to say that he is quite young and at this time, his only focus is on the next game he will play. He said that he does not plan too ahead for the future, and takes it one game at a time. The front man went
on to say that the job for him is pretty simple right now, go out and give it his all for Newcastle. He said that if he scores goals and his team wins that is all that he needs and does not want to make things complicated for himself. Carroll said that he
is not someone who is glued to the TV watching every game and looking at what other teams are doing, he said that all he does is to make sure he is doing his job right and does not worry about others.
English Premier League took a break this weekend due to international matches, and will return to League action this weekend to face Wigan Athletic at home. Carroll said he is looking forward to adding to his goal tally
for the season; so far from 7 games he has 4 goals, and has looked refreshing. His contribution has not only been limited to goals but he has also been a great help for other strikers, as he has been attracting attention from opposition defence inside the
6 yard box.
Andy Carroll said that he knows that many players like to research about the next team they are going to play, and read up on their weaknesses. But for him the game is very simple and all he does is go out and give it his
all, and that is the way he wants to carry on playing.
