Andy Carroll keen to prove his worth at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809
New Liverpool signing Andy Carroll is keen to prove his worth at Anfield. The striker is hopeful to justify his £35 million price tag, and is confident of fully utilising his potential by scoring goals for the team.
“It was a lot of money but I need to do what I have to do to prove the money was worth it. I am here to score goals and create chances for the team and that is what I can do,” the 22-year old said.
Carroll was signed on to fill the void created by Fernando Torres' sale to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and is expected to play the same role the Spaniard played for Liverpool. The Englishman will be wearing the revered No9 jersey, but insists there’s no comparison. With the spotlight firmly on him, the striker just wants to concentrate on his game.
“I know what I can do in myself. Torres was a great player but I just need to concentrate on my own game,” he said.
Carroll’s purchase from Newcastle at the whopping transfer fee has raised a few eye-brows. Critics have questioned whether the striker will live up to the tag of being the eighth most expensive player in football history.
Reds boss Kenny Dalglish has fully backed the decision, stressing that Liverpool are content with the signing.
“The price might be a bit more than what some people think it should be but every single person has got to justify their wages and their costs…I'm sure he can do that for us,” he said.
After leaving St James' Park, Carroll was questioned about his commitment and loyalty. Carroll said that he had massive respect for Newcastle and was not going to talk about what happened there.
Carroll is wary of the expectations, and can't wait to return to first team action. He was expected to feature against Stoke city on Wednesday but was sidelined because of a thigh injury, and is expected to be out for another two or three weeks. Luis Suarez, who was signed along with Carroll, has already made an immediate impact; he played a decisive role in the 2-0 victory over Stoke City.
Caroll is hoping for a ‘fresh start’ and is keen to put his mistakes behind him; but fans and critics will have to wait to see if the Carroll- Suez duo will live up to the hype.
