Andy Carroll may make England debut
Andy Carroll may be called up into the full England squad by Fabio Capello for the European 2012 qualifier in October. England will play Montenegro at Wembley on 12 October.
Carroll may make the squad due to a number of injuries. Wayne Rooney, Bobby Zamora and Jermain Defoe are all injured and may not be fit to face Montenegro.
Currently, England lead the group on goal difference from the surprise package Montenegro. Both teams have won their first two matches and it is unlikely that Capello will experiment with his team in such an important qualifying game.
Carroll was not included for the under-21’s squad who play Romania twice in the space of four days. The England under-21 team will play Romania at home in Carrow Road on 8 October before flying out to Romania for the away match at Botosani.
Carroll has been a regular first team player for the under-21’s and this omission should coincide with a full call up. The striker’s strength and height will provide the team with an alternative up front. The players form will have impressed Capello who
has promised to bring through England’s future generation after a disastrous World Cup
The 21-year-old has impressed in the Premier League this season and has scored four goals in six Premier League games. The striker scored his first top flight hat-trick in the game with Aston Villa. Carroll also played a crucial role in the clubs promotion
last season.
If selected for the England squad it is unlikely that the pragmatic Capello will play the Newcastle forward in a competitive match.
However, if the England team can build up a lead, Carroll may get the chance to impress the international manager as a substitute in the latter stages of the game.
