Andy Carroll to be fit in time for Manchester United clash
Liverpool’s new signing Andy Carroll is expected to be fit for the crucial Premier League clash against Manchester United on 6 March, 2011.
The ex-Newcastle striker is out with a thigh injury and is in contention for a debut for new club Liverpool at Anfield. It could turn out to be a dream debut for Carroll playing in front of the Kop for the first time and against one of their fierce rivals,
Manchester United.
Carroll has been out injured after Newcastle’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in December 2010. The 22-year-old suffered a thigh injury in the match and has been out since. The striker has started training again and it his highly likely that he will feature
in the Red shirt in a few weeks.
Liverpool acquired Carroll for a club record fee of 35 million pounds on the last day of the January 2011 transfer window signing a five and a half year deal after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. Newcastle had earlier
rejected a deal worth almost 25 million pounds from Tottenham Hotspur stating that the striker was ‘Not for sale.’
Carroll’s move came as a shock for the fans and his hometown club. The former Magpies’ striker later claimed that he was forced to hand in a transfer request with the owners going for money and selling him to the Reds as the price was good. Newcastle were
unable to find a suitable replacement for Carroll on the final day of the transfer window.
Carroll has had a fantastic 2010-11 season and has scored 11 goals in the 19 appearances he made for Newcastle. He is also responsible for 6 assists for the Magpies and had been a force, combining brilliantly with the likes of Joe Barton and Kevin Nolan
at his former club. He is the third highest goal scorer in the League only behind http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254 and Carlos Tevez.
Liverpool and Manchester United earlier met in a thriller in September 2010 at Old Trafford. United won the match 3-2 with Berbatov scoring a superb hat-trick while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 scored 2 goals. Liverpool came from 2-0 down to draw level in 6 minutes and
the match stood at 2-2 in 70 minutes. But it was a brilliant header from Berbatov which sealed the match for United, 6 minutes from time.
Liverpool will be looking to seek revenge for the loss at Old Trafford given their good form of late. The encounter would be a crucial one for both sides with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 catching up on United. The
combination of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez would surely make it a mouth-watering clash.
