Andy Cole believes that Roberto Mancini will hinder Manchester City’s Premier League bid
Former Manchester United striker, Andy Cole, has claimed that Manchester City will not be able to mount a serious challenge for the Barclays Premier League title as long as they have Roberto Mancini as their manager.
Manchester City recently ended their decades-long goal drought by winning their first FA Cup title in more than 40 years. The Sky blues have also earned themselves a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League by breaking into the top four of the League
standings. If they manage to win their final game of the domestic campaign, they would finish the season in third place.
City are moving quickly up the ranks of the English top flight thanks to the financial backing of owner, Sheikh Mansour, and many believe that the Sky Blues are now strong enough to stake their claim for the Barclays Premier League title next season.
However, former Manchester United striker, Andy Cole, claims that it will be impossible for City to rise to the top unless they change their defensive tactics. Cole believes that Manchester City manager, Roberto Mancini, does not have the attacking mindset
needed to take his team to the top of English football.
Speaking on the matter, Andy Cole said, “They'll (Manchester City) be up there, but challenging realistically to win it playing the way they do? I don't think the Premier League can be won the way they play football. Mancini's Italian and you can't see him
changing his mindset.”
“They wanted to finish in the Champions league spots this season, fair enough. But if they're saying they want to win the Premier league...playing like that? It’s not possible.”
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 has set his team up to play for a draw on more than a few occasions this season, and Cole believes that such a mentality will never allow City to challenge for the title.
He added, “You can't go to the Emirates, come away with a draw, and think that's a good result. Man Utd can't come to Eastlands with you sitting back and being delighted with a draw when you're the home team.”
Manchester City are currently in third place in the Barclays Premier League standings, while fourth placed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 are just a point behind.
