Head coach of the English cricket team, Andy Flower, has backed the appointment of Alastair Cook as the captain of the national One Day International (ODI) team and feels that the left-hander has all the credentials to become a good leader at the highest
stage of the game.
England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) made an interesting decision last week when it announced three different captains for the different formats of the game. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SCJ-Broad-c2465 will take
over the roles of ODI and T20 captains respectively.
Flower has a huge role in the appointment of Cook as the ODI captain as they both know each other quite well, especially because Cook is also a former teammate of Flower as they both played county cricket for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783.
England coach said that the left handed opener is a brilliant cricketer who thinks a lot about the game. Cook captained England in their tour of Bangladesh in early 2010 and the former Zimbabwean captain believes that the left handed opener proved his captaincy
skills. He added that Cook will become a very good captain in future.
Flower said, “Alastair is a very good cricketer - we've seen evidence of that recently and he's a very good leader. He's going to be a very good leader for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.”
The appointment of Cook as the ODI captain has been criticized by many former cricketers because the Essex left hander has never been a permanent member of the English limited overs squad.
England coach said that Cook follows the principles very strictly which is an evident sign of good leader. He added that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 is not ranked as a good Test team but the way Cook led England in their tour of Bangladesh in 2010 was a big enough proof
that the left hander can handle the pressure of international captaincy quite efficiently.
"He has good principles and values. We've seen him captain England in Bangladesh and even though they aren't one of the strongest Test nations, we saw evidence of a man who can lead a group of men," England coach added.
