Andy Flower has high hopes from newly appointed ODI and Twenty20 skippers
England coach, Andy Flower, expects Alastair Cook and Stuart Broad to display maturity in their dutoes as captains of the One-Day Internationals as well as Twenty20 respectively.
Following the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2011, the ODI skipper, Andrew Strauss, stepped down from the captaincy while he continued leading the Test side as a captain. The England Cricket Board (ECB) then appointed
Cook as an ODI captain while Broad was given the responsibility to lead the Twenty20 side in the place of Paul Collingwood.
Strauss has shown his satisfaction over the appointment of ODI and Twenty20 captains. Flower added that he has trust in Cook and Stuart as they have a very mature approach in leading the English team.
Team’s director also assured that the newly appointed captains have full support of their team-mates and the former ODI skipper is also very comfortable with that. Flower asserted that the new skippers are lucky to have Strauss
among them, as they can learn a lot from him, regarding the overall game as well a captaincy.
The 34-year-old Strauss, who intends to continue leading his side for the next two Ashes campaigns, said that all the three captains are determined to lead the team to a brilliant future.
"I think it would be wrong for us not to tap into each other's ideas. As long as we have clear lines of responsibility that's a great way of widening the net of ideas and possibilities and therefore getting better at mapping out
a course for the side," said Strauss.
In 2010, Strauss brought great improvements to his team’s performance. Under his captaincy, England won all of their One-Dayers and also clinched the Ashes series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 after 24 years. Cook was the key performer during
the Ashes victory, as he amassed 766 runs. However, he has just appeared in three ODIs in the past two and half years.
The former skipper then led his side to the quart-final stage of the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2011.
They 26-year-old Cook was not part of England’s One-Day squad for the mega-event’s quarter-final.
Cook will start his duties as a skipper in the ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 on 28th
June while Broad will take up his responsibilities with only Twenty20 against Sri Lanka on June 25.
