Andy Flower has successful surgery to remove cancerous growth
While the English players are testing their nerves against their historical Ashes rivals http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in Gabba, the England coach is fighting a cancerous growth in his right cheek. The forty two year old Andy Flower underwent a surgery
to remove the right cheek melanoma.
The operation, which was carried out at a local Brisbane hospital, forced Andy to miss the second day game of the Ashes opener. According to an England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) spokesman, the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 skipper perceived
the abnormal growth in his right cheek earlier this week and decided to go through a precautionary surgery. Since the team was in the final stages of its build-up for the much celebrated 133-year rivalry, Flower delayed it for a few days.
"As far as he is concerned, it is business as usual. He was not at the game today, because he had a melanoma taken out - which was successful. At this stage, he is expected to be fine, " said the spokesman. "He went off for a routine
check, and they said they felt it prudent to take it out," the spokesman added.
The ECB spokesman was hopeful that the regular coach of England cricket team would rejoin the squad before the end of Gabba Test. "He may well be back on deck tomorrow, or most definitely the following day." Richard Halsall, the fielding
coach of England team, has been given the charge of stand-in coach in the absence of Andy Flower.
Prevention of skin cancer is an issue that is being widely promoted in Australia in recent times. According to a medical research, an early removal of melanomas in such cases is almost 100 percent effective to fight the disease.
Flower, who made his international debut in 1992 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at Harare, has for a long time been Zimbabwe’s only player with true Test calibre under all circumstances. It was under Andy’s leadership that the Zimbabwe team scripted
its first ever Test victory against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in 1994-95. He is also the 1st Zimbabwean player to lead the side in a Test tour to England in 2000.
He joined the England team as assistant coach in 2007 and was thrust in charge of the national team in January last year. The England team had a triumphant home summer this year under Flower’s coaching. Andy has faced many challenges in his cricketing career,
both as player as well as in management, but coaching the pioneers of cricket will rival any of them.
