Andy Flower satisfied after renewed contract with the ECB
Andy Flower is quite satisfied and confident to lead the English after the ECB renewed his contract. He does not lament over his failure to get contracted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as Gary Kirsten’s successor.
However, he did confirm that he had contacted the BCCI for the coaching position.
Flower has been working as the Chief Coach of England for the last two years. Under his leadership, the team won two Ashes seasons consecutively and claimed a World Twenty20 title.
Talking to the media, Flower says, “I think we have done good things in my two years as head coach, but there is huge potential for growth for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 cricket.”
Flower’s last contract with the ECB ended in December 2010 but he continued his job for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
When the Indian coach, Gary, resigned from his post citing personal reasons, Flower vied to replace him. He was also shortlisted by the BCCI but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Duncan-c54739 Fletcher came up as the most potential candidate and got the post.
Flower confirms, “I did have communication with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 about that job, but it was very clear in my mind where my immediate future lies.”
Flower and Fletcher both hail from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 and have led their national cricket team. Before Flower, Fletcher had also coached the English side.
Flower now wants to put his maximum energy and effort to perk up the English. He determines, “We are ranked number three, our goal is to be ranked number one and for us to get there we are going to have to improve in various aspects of the game and we are going to have to be very hungry and driven towards that goal.”
The ECB has taken a grand step towards progress by appointing a different captain for each of the three formats of the game.
Flower has good coordination with all the skippers and is committed to work with them to reach the height of success and betterment.
