After taking his side to the top of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625’s Test rankings table, the England coach, Andy Flower, is eying the World Champions title for the Poms.
The England team's head coach, while urging his side to maintain the Test number one status, said that their next target is the 50-over World Cup.
"There's no way our goal will be just trying to maintain that status,” said Flower while talking to the media reporters on Sunday. “We've got to have something more exciting than that. England has never won a 50-over World Cup, so 2015 is something
we've already started planning towards," he added further.
England, after starting the ongoing series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and number three test side, clinched the numero uno Test status by thrashing India by an innings and 242 runs at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. The colossal victory not only earned the hosts an
unassailable series win in the four-match Test series, but also helped them leapfrog India to the No. 1 spot.
England, the pioneer of International cricket, has never won a 50-overs World Cup. The only ICC title the Poms have won so far is the 2010 World Twenty20 Championship they had won in the Caribbean.
Flower heaped praises on Andrew Strauss’s leadership, saying, that
he is an “outstanding leader” and a “special man”. He urged the side not to just hang on to the No 1 status.
"What Strauss and I don't want to do is (just) hang on to the No 1 status,” said the former Zimbabwean wicketkeeper batsman.
"It would be a really dangerous position to be in if we weren't trying to constantly improve ourselves. Now we are ranked No 1, people will be very hungry to knock us off that perch," Flower added further.
