http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806’s retirement – Cricket News Update
Andy Flower, the Director of English cricket team, is extremely disappointed with the decision of Kevin Pietersen to limit himself to Test cricket only and admits that the hard-hitting batsman’s absence will hurt England’s fortunes
in limited-overs internationals.
Last month, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 born cricketer announced his retirement from One Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20 Internationals, but will continue to represent the Poms in the longer version of the sport.
The 31-year-old is considered to be one of the most destructive batsmen of the modern-day game and has the ability to change the outcome of a match in no time. Pietersen played a massive role in England’s title triumph in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625
World T20 2010 in the Caribbean and was named as the Player of the Tournament for his outstanding showings.
Many of the cricket experts have slammed Pietersen’s timing of retirement, which has come just three months before the ICC World T20 2012, which is scheduled to be held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in September/October.
Flower revealed that he made attempts to stop the right-hander to make such a hasty decision because he seems to be at the top of his game at the present moment.
Flower said, "When Kevin told me he wanted to retire from one-day cricket, I must have had three or four subsequent meetings with him where I tried to dissuade him from doing so. I think it's really sad he won't be playing all three
forms of the game. He's in incredible form - technically, he's excellent."
The lanky batsman has been in tremendous form in 2012 as he scored two consecutive centuries against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in his last two ODIs and lit up the fifth season of Indian Premier League as well with his blistering hitting.
The mentor further added that the seasoned campaigner was rested last year for the limited-overs series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in order to keep him fresh. Therefore, Pietersen’s claim is not valid enough that he did not have time to rest.
"He can rest - it's not as if KP can't ever rest - we do rest him, and if you look back at various series that's what we've done. He's also had significant chunks out with injury,” he added.
