Andy Flower urges England to be more consistent in quarterfinals of ICC World Cup 2011
England cricket team coach Andy Flower admitted on Saturday that his team has failed to perform well in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2011 and has urged the players to come up with more “dominating and consistent” cricket in the quarterfinals
if they are to win their first-ever title.
“It would be great for us to be more dominant, more consistent,” said Flower while talking to media. “But that was not the case so far and I am not looking backward. We have not been consistent enough and of course I would love to have more
dominant and confident show from the players.”
The English coach insisted that his side needs to raise the bar if they want to lift the coveted trophy this time.
The 206-run crushing of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 at the hands of formidable South Africa at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday meant that England and India were through to the knockout round from Group B.
The Proteas have finished the league stage at the top of their group with 10 points while the remaining three final positions will be determined after the India-West Indies clash on Sunday.
A victory against Windies would earn India two more points making the tally nine and taking them to second place just behind South Africa while England would finish third with seven points from six games.
But if the Caribbean Kings prevail in Sunday’s game, they will finish number two with 8 points while India and England would finish third and fourth respectively.
Flower said that they are now looking forward to the result of the final league match between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 as the tie would decide the final permutations of Group B. He further added that as soon as they find out about their quarterfinal
opponents, they will formulate their strategy accordingly.
When asked about World Cup favourites from the final eight, Flower said that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 and India have been remarkable in the league stage so they both are favourites to win the title.
