http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SL-Malinga-c2540 to play Test cricket – Cricket News Update
England’s coach, Andy Flower, has criticized the decision of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758’s speedster, Lasith Malinga to announce retirement from Test cricket.
Flower, who played International cricket for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045, asserted that Malinga should play Test cricket for the country, as he is an outstanding bowler in the longer format of the game.
The 48-year-old stated that the fast bowler has always been right on the money with his performance; therefore, people want to watch him in action.
“The rewards out there for playing less cricket are obvious. It’s a great sadness to world cricket that we’re losing players like him from Test cricket – that guy should be playing Test cricket for Sri Lanka,” he said while talking
to the media.
Malinga, who started his Test career against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 at Marrara Cricket Ground, Darwin, on July 1, 2004, said good-bye to Test cricket recently.
While announcing retirement, the Lankan pacer mentioned that he wants to play for the country in the shorter version of the game till the next World Cup.
The 28-year-old pacer is fully capable of scaring any world class batsman, as he has mastered the art of delivering toe-crushing yorkers.
Malinga, who proved himself as a consistent performer since his International debut, has always been famous for his flaming pace, capable of pushing batsmen to the back-foot.
The Galle-born fast bowler cemented his place in the Sri Lankan test side as a striking bowler; however, he failed to continue his Test career courtesy to fitness and injury issues.
Coming back to Flower’s statement, if Malinga decides to play Test cricket, it would help to promote the scope of five day cricket in Sri Lanka.
“There’s no doubt about that – it makes the world game more interesting if he’s involved in it. They have to act very responsibly and make decisions on what’s good for the game in the future. I’m not sure that’s the case at the
moment,” the English mentor added in same interview.
The right-arm pacer has played 30 test matches for Sri Lanka so far , picking 101 wickets for his with an average of 33.15 and an economy rate of 3.85.
