Andy Goode believes Worcester must gain promotion
England international Andy Goode has stated that anything but promotion to the Aviva Premiership this season would be unacceptable.
Worcester was relegated from the top tier of English rugby, but they have started the season in the Championship with a perfect record.
The Warriors have picked up eight wins out of eight in the league this season and beat second placed Bedford 28-18 at the weekend. Goode scored 23 points in the win and has been instrumental in their fine run of form.
The English out-half admitted that the difference between the Championship and Premiership is not as vast as people think.
"Bedford are a side that could compete with some of the teams in the Premiership. Maybe not the Leicesters of this world, but against some of the bottom-half teams,” said Goode.
The out-half feels that his side should gain promotion due to the strength of the squad and the financial backing of owner Cecil Duckworth.
The team has managed to hold on to key players, despite their relegation and this could be crucial for Worchester.
"We've got a fairly big squad compared to the other teams in this division and that will show over the year,” said the out-half.
"That's the key difference that comes through a bit of funding, so we're privileged to have Duckworth,” added Goode.
The England international praised the owner and believes that his willingness to retain players after their disappointing season in the Premiership will help the club.
"He has stuck by the club and the contracts. There's two or three players in each position,” added the Worcester player.
However, if the side fails to gain promotion, the likes of Goode may consider his future.
The out-half said, “I signed a three-year deal and I'm a man of my word. But it'd be a disaster if we don't get promoted this year.”
