Andy Johnson insists Fulham are not safe from relegation yet – English Premier League news
Fulham forward Andy Johnson has insisted that his team is not safe from going down into the Championship just yet. He stated that the bottom-half of the standings table is still very complicated and no club is safe as of now with five games to go in the
season.
The forward scored with his first touch in the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday to secure a point for his side as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Mark Hughes’ side are currently in 14th place with 39 points and are five points above the drop zone. They have won eight games from a total of 33 played, losing ten and drawing 15 in the process.
Johnson revealed that the club are in a better position than clubs below them in the table but insisted that the Cottagers will have to get the maximum points out of their remaining five matches to ensure safety. He added that there are still many points
to play for in the League and anything can happen.
“I don’t think we can say we’re safe yet. It’s so tight down at the bottom, and there are still a lot of points to play for,” the forward was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former Everton striker claimed that the 40-point benchmark will not be safe this time as there is a lot of competition at the bottom. He stated that Fulham will have to win as many matches as they can to finish the season on a high and secure themselves
as soon as possible.
“Over the past few years, people have looked at the 40-point mark as the safety line, but it might be higher this year because everyone’s beaten each other at the bottom. We have to get as many points as we can, and as quickly as we can, because nobody is
safe from about 12th place downwards,” the Englishman concluded.
Fulham play Bolton Wanderers next in the Premier League on Wednesday, April 27, at Craven Cottage. The Londoners have a bright chance of staying in the League next season as they have three games left at home out of the remaining five.
