to an agreement earlier on.
In his latest media interaction, Lee spoke about fighting Lee. He said, “I would relish the opportunity to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for the WBC title on June 16. I’m ready and available, let’s make the fight. It would be a tough fight but I believe I
have the skills to beat him and end his reign as champion. The Irish and Mexican people like a good fight, so let’s get it on.”
He further stated, “I have been patiently waiting for my opportunity and now that the dust has settle in the first quarter of 2012 there should be different options emerging for me to challenge for a world title. I strongly feel I deserve my shot.” He added
that he has worked extremely hard in the last 6 years and that now he is the world title contender and he should get the shot as soon as possible.
Similarly, Lee’s trainer and manager Emanuel Steward said that Lee has worked hard to establish himself among the top-notch fighters in America and Europe. He added that he believes a bout between Julio Chavez and Andy Lee would be an enthralling one since
both the fighters are young, ambitious and fierce. He also said that Andy is currently the most prominent and visible middleweight contender right now in the United States and that it makes good sporting sense and business for HBO and other promoters to make
the fight the happen.
To conclude, Andy added that he has fixed his eyes on Julio’s title but he can consider taking on other champions as well such as Sergio Martinez, Daniel Geale and Felix Sturm. He said he is eager to fight any one of them in the next 3 to 6 months.
