Andy Marshall rejoins Aston Villa and Ji-Sung Park says Manchester United will improve
Aston Villa’s former goalkeeper, Andy Marshall has once again signed for the club on a one year contract. The veteran has been brought in to provide cover in the goalkeeping department.
In June 2010 Marshall left Aston Villa, but the interim manager Kevin Macdonald persuaded him to come back.
The experienced goalkeeper did not make it to the first team at Villa last season, and later headed to Colchester for training during pre season.
There had been talks for a possible comeback with Macdonald and Marshall said that he is happy to have got another opportunity to play with Aston Villa.
Marshall while talking to a British newspaper said that, the deal was in process for the last 3 weeks, and finally he decided that it would be a wise move to come back to the club he loves.
The 35 year old said that he was let go by the club in summers with a clause of being able to come back. He said that when Kevin Macdonald approached him about coming back to the club he decided to agree. He added that he has enjoyed a good relationship with Macdonald and would love to help out the team in every way he can.
Marshall went on to say that, last season he had worked with Macdonald in the reserves team alongside the young players. He said that he does see himself playing in some first team matches this season, and will make the most of his chances.
Meanwhile Manchester United’s, South Korean midfielder, Ji-Sung Park has said that the start to the season has not been ideal, but he is confident that United can improve a lot in the upcoming weeks.
Manchester United has managed to get 7 points from a possible 9 so far. Thanks largely to two home wins against Newcastle and West Ham United. The Red devils did not fare that well at Craven Cottage where they drew 2-2, after Nani missed a penalty to get them 3-1 up.
Manchester United are trailing league leaders Chelsea by 2 points, and the goal difference is also immense already.
Park said that these are early days and the whole team is determined to improve on the start, and pose a serious challenge to Chelsea for the league title.
The South Korean captain said that 2 wins in 3 games is not such a bad result, but considering how competitive the league has become it is imperative to keep your foot on the gas. He said that Chelsea with 15 goals in 3 games have set the standard pretty high, and the rest have to play catch up.
The right winger went on to say that, the Premier League season is a marathon rather than a sprint. So the team that manages to maintain a consistent run will be the one on top come end of May next year.
Park said that, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has shown his disappointment with the team over the dropped points at Fulham. He added that still Ferguson did say that there is no need to panic as there is a long way to go before Chelsea can make any significant ground on them, and they are confident that they can knock the blues off the top in the coming weeks.
Park, who came to Manchester United from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, said that there is enough depth and quality in the squad for them to last the whole 10 months and perform not just in the Premier league but also in Europe and domestic club competitions.
