Andy Murray: Defeat at the hands of Federer will not tarnish ‘perfect preparation’ – Tennis News
Andy Murray’s emphatic run this season hasn’t turned into gold yet. He is still looking to overpower the superior players in the world rankings and hasn’t been able to turn promising runs into the titles. He started the year with
a classic breakthrough in Brisbane; winning the season-opener but hasn’t had a luck with the titles in the rest of the season to date.
He was looking terrific in the year’s first Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open, until his face-off with the Serb world number one, Novak Djokovic, in the semi-finals. He played his heart out in that match but wasn’t able
to power down the inhuman Serb who later went on to win the six-hour marathon final against the Spanish number one, Novak Djokovic.
A tour of Dubai was ever shining for the Briton. He defeated the Michael Berrer and Marco Chiudinelli in the opening two rounds before dumping the Czech tennis icon, Tomas Berdych, in the quarter-finals. The most devastating performances
from the British tennis icon came in the semi-final of the tournament when he defeated the three-time defending champion, Novak Djokovic. It seemed like he was on course to win his second title but the Swiss Maestro stood in his way and dumped him in straight
sets to take the fifth Dubai title of his career.
However, Murray is still happy from his performance. In an interview about his recovery to win big matches, he stated, “It's not that often where guys beat top players on back-to-back days. It's not an easy thing to do. But overall
it was a good week, perfect preparation for the stretch coming up in America. I worked on some things with [coach] Ivan Lendl before coming here [and have] just been trying to put them into the matches little by little. This week was a good start.”
He further added, “It's a very important period for me, this one coming up because I struggled there [in Indian Wells and Miami] the last couple of years. I'm going to get over there early, get some good practice in.”
Murray is concentrating on his personal career at the moment and that is the reason he didn’t take part in the Davis Cup fixtures earlier in February. He is the only famous player from his region and wants to win titles for Great
Britain. He can only do that if he can stay focused on the task and work hard with his new coach, Ivan Lendl; another legend from the world of tennis.
