Andy Murray: “I was thinking about the reasons why that had happened” – Tennis News
World number three, Andy Murray, opened up his account in the Association of Tennis Professionals Tour Finals with a victory to his name but it was a hard fought triumph. He was trailing a set down after the closure of the opening phase but battled back emphatically well to power down the sixth seed Czech star, Tomas Berdych. The final score line in favour of the 25-year-old Briton was 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. It helped Murray to wipe off another psychological pressure by equalizing the head-to-head scores at 4-4. Earlier in the season, both players played three matches and the Briton won two out of them.
It was crucial for the Briton to stay focused because the sixth seed Canadian star, Milos Raonic, outfoxed him in Tokyo; followed up with a fantastic battle against the second seed Serb, Novak Djokovic, at Shanghai but ended in a loss. To enhance the misery, the qualifier Jerzy Janowicz dismissed the number one Briton in the third round of the Paris Masters last week. So, some tragic losses after a stupendous victory at the US Open Championships have kept Murray away from any more title glory. It is frustrating at times to be deprived of something that you desire the most.
Commenting about the past losses, Murray stated, “I was thinking about the reasons why that had happened. The match against Djokovic in Shanghai, I didn't really feel like I did loads wrong in that match. The one last week in Paris, I said I was disappointed with. I rushed, didn't concentrate and focus as hard as I needed to. That was why I got broken.”
Playing at his home soil O2 London, Murray said, “The noise and the atmosphere at the beginning of the match were great. The last week of the year when everyone's a little bit tired, it does help to have that atmosphere and a big crowd to give you that extra push you need to play good tennis.”
Next up for the British number one is none other than the top ranked player in the world, Novak Djokovic, who is looking to demolish Murray and enhance his chances of qualifying for the semi-finals. Both players will look to defy the odds and clinch straight sets win but the possibility of an early finish is trivial in such a big clash. Hence, three sets of fascinating tennis will be at your disposal on the eve of Tuesday.
