Andy Murray: “It was an incredibly positive year” – Tennis News
World number three, Andy Murray, failed to extend his stupendous run of the season at the O2 Arena in London and fell in the semi-finals of the Barclays Association of Tennis Professional World Tour Finals. He had his opportunities
in the match but couldn’t convert them and when the player doesn’t take up the allotted chances against the 17-time Grand Slam Champion, Roger Federer, they are bound to pay it big time. The 25-year-old Briton left the crowd dejected who wanted to see a bit
more effort in the second set. The match ended with the final score of 7-6(5), 6-2. Murray commented afterwards, “I started the match well. He came back in, got the tie-break.”
However, the loss doesn’t hurt the fact that this has been the most successful season for the third ranked Briton who managed to break a duck in the category of Grand Slam titles at the US Open in New York. Moreover, the classic
victory at the London Olympics yielded him the gold medal as well that was coupled with the final finish in the Wimbledon Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. It was something emphatic for a man who was criticized to have struggled very badly
against the superior ranked players.
Murray added, “It was an incredibly positive year. I would have loved to finish the year on a win, of course. It's been the best year of my career by a mile. So why I would look back on that negatively now would be silly because
I've achieved things I've never achieved before.” There is definitely no need to wary at the moment because it was the season-end and everyone was worn out completely.
Reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, rallied a set down to oust the bronze medallist from Argentina, Juan Martin Del Potro, who did everything to beat the Serb superstar but in the end went out of ideas and stamina. Djokovic
won the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Now the final of the year-end finale will take place between the Top-2 seeded players; Federer and Djokovic. Commenting about the finalists, Murray stated, “I wouldn't say whoever wins or loses the match tomorrow will look back
on the year with huge disappointment. I think both of them have played really well this whole year and I have to try to view it the same.”
The Australian Open 2013 will bring some startling matches especially with the inclusion of the 11-time Grand Slam Champion, Rafael Nadal, in the draw. He will be coming back from a six month knee injury.
