Andy Murray “Now I feel like I can hopefully concentrate better” – Tennis News
World number three, Andy Murray, sky-rocketed his fame by winning a gold medal at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in London and coupled it with a stupendous victory at the US Open Championships to claim the maiden Grand Slam title
in September.
However, the overdose of glory moments aren’t over for the 25-year-old Scot who was handed a cracking upset by the sixth seed Canadian superstar, Milos Raonic, in the semi-final of the Rakuten Japan Open, Tokyo. Raonic, 21-year-old,
won the opening set 6-3 before losing out the second set tie-breaker 6(5)-7. However, the luck swirled in his favour in the final set as he turned around the contest in the tie-breaker winning it 7-6(4).
Murray told the media representatives of Reuters, “There was always going to be a bit of residue from the last few months. Ideally I wouldn't have liked to start the match like that.”
He further added, “I was so obsessed with winning a grand slam, sometimes in certain matches I haven't done myself justice.”
The Scot confessed making a mistake for not taking the matches after the US Open seriously. He said, “I felt after the U.S. Open (I needed to) reset some goals. I was always focusing on the next grand slam rather than every tournament
and every match I played.”
Murray added, “Now I feel like I can hopefully concentrate better, take more responsibility for my performances in every tournament throughout the year.”
It is high time for the Briton to gather some confidence back and regroup; focus on the upcoming games and forget about the past achievements. He will surely give a very tough time to his opponents at the year-end finale in London;
playing at his home ground will be an added advantage.
This year has yielded more overall glories for the 25-year-old Scot compared to the last but the comparison between the two years revealed that Murray has already lost 13 matches in his 66 clashes in 2012 whereas he ended up with
13 losses last year with 61 wins.
So, the focus needs to be back for the Scot who is eyeing to dethrone to Top-2 superstars in the world to become the top ranked player in the world. He is still a long way away from that glory moment but these small steps are crucial
in building up for the big win and losing out to inferior ranked players will definitely hamper his cause.
