Andy Murray: “Whether I and Novak would replace anything Roger and Rafa have done” – Tennis News
World number three, Andy Murray, has registered a breakthrough season in 2012 and ignited a new rivalry in the world of tennis. People have started talking about the clashes between the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic,
and the 25-year-old Briton, Andy Murray, who has clinched two big titles including the Olympics gold medal as well as the US Open Championship in New York this season.
However, there is no point matching the recently enhanced rivalry between Murray and Djokovic with that of Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, and Seven-time French Open Champion, Rafael Nadal. The third ranked Briton also thinks the
same way as he stated, “Whether I and Novak would replace anything Roger and Rafa have done, I think that's a long way off. But I think some of the matches we've had this year were high quality, fun to watch, and I'm all for playing more of those matches if
I can. For me there's an understanding of how much you have to put into the match to win it. I think that's just the nature of those matches."
Moreover, the response from Djokovic about the new rivalry was, “Playing Andy is always a big challenge. He has had lots of success in London, playing in front of his crowd with big support. When I'm playing Andy I need to be ready
for long rallies and a physically demanding match.” Both these players have fought 16 battles between them and Murray trails the head-to-head scores by 7-9. He had a great opportunity at the final of the Shanghai Rolex Masters to equalize the scores at 8-8
but he failed to post a hat-trick of wins against Djokovic that day.
In the current season, both athletes are tied at three victories apiece in their six face-offs. A probable one last battle is yet to be fought at the Association of Tennis Professionals Tour Finals in London. Both arch rivals will
lock horns on the eve of Wednesday at the O2 arena in London to contest a second Round Robin battle after registering victories in their opening clashes. It is going to be an enthralling encounter without a doubt and must stretch to its limit of three sets.
Djokovic holds the superior seed advantage but the home crowd and local soil are the critical factors that tilt the draw in favour of the number one Briton. Stage is set for probably the last battle of the season between the new
arch rivals.
