Andy Murray accepts Roger Federer to be the favourite at Wimbledon final – Tennis News
World number four, Andy Murray, is seeking a famous glory for himself and the home fans at Wimbledon Championships on Sunday. He will be up against the former world number one, Roger Federer, and the match will be an epic one because
there are too many things on the stake for both players.
However, the Scot has already accepted the fact that the Swiss legend is the hot favourite to win the match on Sunday despite his aim of claiming the first ever Grand Slam Championship Title at Wimbledon, something that no Briton
has been able to do since 1936. It will be a memorable moment for the British tennis ace if he manages to claim that glory.
Murray was up against the number one Frenchman, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, in the semi-final clash of the Championship at All England Lawn Tennis Association on Friday. He won the match in four sets and shouted with a voice of a warrior
that showed his aggression and a feeling of fulfilment. However, the job is still half done and he has to go through the in-form Swiss professional who has already devastated the defending champion, Novak Djokovic, on Friday in four sets. It was the world
class performance from Federer and with this form he can defeat any player on his day.
Murray stated about the final, “It's a great challenge, one where I'm probably not expected to win the match, but one that, if I play well, I'm capable of winning. If you look at his record here over the past 10 years or so, it's
been incredible. So the pressure that I would be feeling, if it was against somebody else, I guess it would be different. There will be less on me on Sunday because of who he is.”
He further added about his semi-final triumph, “The first couple of sets were pretty smooth. Then after that it was tough. It was a tough match. In terms of focus, that was probably one of the hardest matches.”
Murray has the advantage of playing in front of the home crowd and those people are hungry to see their countryman lifting the Grand Slam trophy for over seven decades. So, they will definitely be hooting for their star. However,
Federer has the experience of being there seven times and winning it six times. So, it will be a clash of experience against pursuit of happiness.
