Andy Murray aims on securing the US Open title – Tennis News
London Olympic gold boy, Andy Murray aims for securing this year’s last Grand Slam title and pocket an emphatic end to the current season. The young Scot is the third seeded player for the US Open, held on the hard courts
of New York. He is paired with Russian tennis underdog, Alex Bogomolov, in the first round of the Championships.
The 6ft 3in Brit has never won a Grand Slam title in his career. He is in an excellent run of form to contest for the Major tournament and can surely bag away the coveted title at the Flushing Meadows. Murray’s confidence
strengthened when he prevailed over the reigning world number one, Roger Federer at the London Olympic Games earlier this month. He also pocketed the silver medal in the mixed double with compatriot, Laura Robson.
The Scot was the runners-up at the US Open in the year 2008. He has lost in the final four Grand Slam events, something extremely disappointing for a talented player like him. He lost to Federer in the Australian Open in
the 2010 and the next year to former world number one, Novak Djokovic.
Murray’s game plan drastically improved at Wimbledon this year, reaching the final of the coveted event but after a fierce battle, he lost against the second seeded Roger Federer. However, exactly four weeks later to his
Wimbledon disappointment, the British number one, returned to the Centre Courts of the All-England-Club and disposed his rival in straight sets of 6-2, 6-1, 6-4.
Talking to the media, Murray said, "Obviously winning the Olympics was the biggest win of my career, that's for sure. It meant a lot to me. I feel confident in myself just now. That's what's important. But I needed to make
sure that afterwards, I worked hard. That's the most important thing. Whether you're confident or not, providing you work hard and you do all the right things in training, then you'll get a good result. That was the most important thing, to make sure I kept
my feet on the ground and keep working hard and try to improve.”
The world number four withdrew after the second round of the Rogers Cup against the 16th seeded Canadian Milos Raonic due to his injury. His critics believe that after a tough Olympic campaign, Murray
will have to face more intense competition against the other top notch performers at the US Open.
The right hander has outplayed both Federer and Djokovic at the Great Games and surely has the potential to clinch his first Grand Slam this year against these opponents again at the hard courts of New York.
