Andy Murray and Andy Roddick reach South Florida for the exhibition event – Tennis News
Although the 2012 tennis season has concluded this month, tennis fanatics need not to wait until January to see their beloved athletes into thrilling action on the courts. The inaugural Miami Tennis Cup in South Florida will kick
off this weekend and will feature some of the top class ATP performers in an exhibition event. This year’s US Open champion, Andy Murray and the former world number one, Andy Roddick, have descended onto the hard courts of Miami to be a part of the ‘Super
Six’ exhibition tournament.
Other big names in the tournament draw include the likes of the current American number one, John Isner, world number 11 Nicolas Almagro, former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero and the 54th ranked Colombian, Alejandro
Falla.
The Miami Tennis Cup will provide thrilling action for the American tennis fans, who have to wait until March 2013 before an ATP tournament will be played at Key Biscayne. Roddick has announced his retirement from professional
tennis recently, so has Ferrero. It will be a treat to watch these two former world number one and retired players in action against the younger opponents.
World number 14, Isner, is very excited to be a part of Miami Tennis Cup and believes that all the matches will be very entertaining for the local crowd. He has been in a fine form throughout the 2012 ATP season, so have been the
other contenders.
“It’s a very easy commute for me,” Isner said. “I don’t have to hop on a plane. I just drive to Miami, a really fun place, and I get really good practice against some top players. It is a very, very tough field. We are all looking
for competition before the Australian Open, and there is no better practice than matches against good players.”

The exhibition tournament will provide some nice practice to Murray, who plans to grab the season-opening Australian Open Grand Slam tournament. Competing against five other top-class opponents in the off-season will avoid Murray to get rusty before the actual
action begins in the new season. Murray will kick off the 2013 ATP season from Brisbane, where he will defend his championship title in a competitive players’ field.
